Secret Greens Smoothie Recipe

O&F Secret Greens Smoothie
We're half way through summer and it's been hot hot hot here in San Diego! I'm 22 weeks pregnant going on 23. I've been searching desperately for ways to stay cool during this hot summer. Luckily, ice cold water, AC, and wearing shorts have been my go-to remedies so far. However, I'm constantly looking for more and new ways to cool off. Plus, being that I'm expecting, I want to stay as healthy as possible.

I have a Vitamix, it's pricey but it does wonders and you can create just about any beverage, dip, soup, dessert and your own sauces/syrups. Heck you can even make your own batches of healthy milks such as coconut and almond milk. But making a smoothie can be done with any type of blender. Obviously, the better the blender, the better and easier it is to create a delicious smoothie.

Now I don't know about you, but I don't like chunks in my smoothies. I like them either smooth or thick depending on what kind it is. The possibilities are endless and you can create just about any type of smoothie you want. Just use your imagination and voila!

For this smoothie, I decided to call it the secret greens smoothie. The reason being is because it's basically a green smoothie but the fruit covers the taste of the greens. I know the color isn't too appealing but when you hear what's inside then it will make total sense why it's a deep purple. Believe me, it's insanely delicious!

Recipe:
Chopped cucumber (1 cup)
Power greens, which is a blend of parsley, spinach & kale (2 cups)
Frozen blueberries (1 cup)
Frozen strawberries or frozen fruit blend (roughly 2 cups)
(1) frozen banana
Chia seeds (1-2 tbsp)
Water, depending on desired consistency (2/3-3/4 of a cup)

Instructions:
Combine ingredients in that order and then blend to desired consistency.
Serves 2.

Side note:
Everything is measured roughly and how you want it to taste. Frozen fruit is actually better for you than fresh as it preserves the nutrients and minerals just after its freshly picked. The cucumber doesn't need to be peeled and you can also add more or less chia seeds, depending on your preference. Remember that this serves two full glasses.

Here at O&F, we strive to give the best of advice, recipes and information, and of course a place to chat amongst each other about all those crazy life moments.

Enjoy the smoothie and remember to always go green & stay healthy during your pregnancy.

Olive & Flowers

Welcome!

O&F is being created by me, a published writer, who just wants to be a standout voice in a crowd of millions. The reason I love writing so much is mostly because of my readers. When my readers engage & relate, that's how I know it makes everything worth it. If I have helped one person with some kind of crisis--whether it be relationship advice, or home decor advice--then I know what I do is helping people. Which I aim to do everyday.

I'm the person my family and friends come to when they need advice on love. Not necessarily because I've experienced everything--like the infamous Miss Carrie Bradshaw--but because I've gone through a long journey of learning how to love and respect myself before giving myself the ability to love another. It's a never-ending journey and you will always learn as you go.

I want O&F to be a place where men & women alike can come to relax, pour a glass of wine, and read about something that they can completely relate to. Whether it be about relationships, life, having a full time job while being as full time parent, and everything in between.

This is a blog about a twenty-something woman detailing her life as an aspiring writer, mommy to be, and a dreamer. It will detail mommy moments, the struggles of working full time, and being a part time writer, while being a girlfriend and a mom, & advice based on my experience & knowledge of these subjects.

I hope you will find that this can be a place where you enjoy the read and can totally relate. I especially enjoy interacting with my readers, so feel free to leave comments, email me and even say, "Hey, I totally relate to that!" Because chances are, we have all been there and it's just a breath of fresh air to know that we all go through the same struggles and joys, just in different ways. We're all human, we all struggle & our imperfections are what make us perfectly imperfect.
